NEW CASTLE, DEL. – Fonterra and Superbrewed Food are partnering to use Superbrewed’s biomass protein platform with Fonterra’s dairy processing, ingredients and applications to produce functional biomass protein.
Superbrewed recently launched its biomass protein called Postbiotic Cultured Protein. In March, the protein received a “no-questions” letter from the US Food and Drug Administration.
The Postbiotic Culture Protein is a bacteria-derived biomass ingredient that is similar in concept to nutritional fungal proteins, according to the company.
“We are excited to be partnering with a company of Fonterra’s stature,” said Bryan Tracy, chief executive officer of Superbrewed Food. “As it recognizes the value in bringing Postbiotic Cultured Protein to market and is a pivotal step toward expanding our offerings of biomass ingredients that further contribute to sustainable food production.”
The partnership also will enable the companies to produce new biomass protein solutions based on the fermentation of multi-feedstocks and Fonterra’s lactose permeate, according to the company.
“Partnering with Superbrewed Foods is a fantastic opportunity,” said Chris Ireland, general manager of innovation partnerships at Fonterra. “Their cutting-edge technology aligns with our mission to provide sustainable nutritional solutions to the world and respond to the global demand for protein solutions thereby creating more value from milk for our farmers.”
