DUNKIRK, NY. — Ice cream manufacturer Wells Enterprises, a stand-alone business within Ferrero Group, increased its investment toward the expansion of its Dunkirk, NY, manufacturing facility from $250 million to $425 million.
The company originally announced expansion plans in August 2023, which called for more than doubling the plant’s current production capacity. The expansion is now expected to more than quadruple the facility’s current production output, the company revealed.
The expansion will enable the company to see growth in its novelty and packaged ice cream products, as well as growth in its national manufacturing network for its Blue Bunny, Halo Top, Bomb Pop and Blue Ribbon Classic brands.
“The investment in Dunkirk illustrates our passion to provide high quality premium ice cream products that bring joy to consumers around the world,” said Liam Killeen, chief executive officer and president of Wells Enterprises. “The planned expansion also reinforces our dedication to our team, consumers, and the community as a critical part of the long-term future of our company.”
Based in Le Mars, Iowa, Wells Enterprises also has two manufacturing plants there, as well as one in Henderson, Nev.
Construction is currently underway and the company expects production to begin in August 2025.
