FRANKLIN, MASS. – Farmer-owned Garelick Farms became the latest dairy manufacturer to roll out lactose-free options for its customers.
A Dairy Farmers of America brand, Northeast-based Garelick Farms shared that it utilizes high temperature short time (HTST) processing – as opposed to ultra high temperature (UHT) processing – to make its lactose-free milk.
“At Garelick Farms, we’ve been producing high quality milk and dairy products for almost 100 years, and our new lactose-free milk is no different — providing fresh, local milk from family farms,” said general manager Michael Young.
The brand’s new whole milk and 2% reduced fat milk are bottled locally in Massachusetts, before the products are sold in gallon jugs at New England retailers.
To accompany the launch, Garelick Farms also debuted an integrated campaign it is calling “Easy to Digest.” The brand shared that the campaign uses humor to highlight “hard to digest situations,” such as a Boston Red Sox rainout, traffic backed up on the interstate or New England weather.
“Lactose intolerance affects a lot of people, but it doesn’t mean they have to give up on fresh-tasting and nutritious milk,” Young said. “We hope this campaign makes people smile as they think about hard to digest situations, while also adding a practical, easy to digest solution with our new lactose-free milk.”
Established in 1931, Garelick Farms produces fluid milk and cream, with manufacturing facilities in Franklin, Mass., New Britain, Conn., and Rensselaer, NY.
