LOS ANGELES – A collaboration between two of The Urgent Company’s brands, Brave Robot and Coolhaus, is behind the debut of some new animal-free ice cream sandwiches.
Set to arrive in frozen dessert aisles in June, the Brave Robot x Coolhaus Animal-Free Ice Cream Sandwiches will come in two flavors: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Mint Chocolate Chip.
The Urgent Company acquired Coolhaus in late 2021, and the new desserts will be the first from the women-owned ice cream brand to be made with Perfect Day’s animal-free milk protein.
"When we started Coolhaus, our mission was to make better products for everyone," said Natasha Case, founder of the brand. "By teaming up with Brave Robot and integrating Perfect Day animal-free protein into our ice cream, we can make Coolhaus accessible to more people by using animal-free dairy that is also lactose-free and even better for the planet. These ice cream sandwiches are the next step to making more inclusive products with even more meaning behind them."
Created through precision fermentation, the whey protein made by Perfect Day and used in Brave Robot ice cream was found to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 72%, non-renewable energy by 60% and blue water consumption by 23%, according to a third-party life cycle assessment.
"The new Brave Robot x Coolhaus Animal-Free Ice Cream Sandwiches are everything you want an ice cream sandwich to be: rich, creamy ice cream layered between freshly baked, decadent cookies," said Paul Kollesoff, chief executive officer and co-founder of The Urgent Company. "When we brought these companies together, we envisioned our missions coming together, too. This collaboration extends our impact by giving devoted Coolhaus fans a taste of a more sustainable future with delicious animal-free dairy."
The Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough flavor is made with animal-free vanilla ice cream, cookie dough chunks and pieces of chocolate, all of which are the filling in a chocolate chip cookie sandwich.
Double chocolate cookies, meanwhile, create the sandwich function in the Mint Chocolate Chip flavor, which has animal-free mint ice cream with chocolate pieces.
The lactose-free frozen desserts will be sold at Kroger locations throughout the US for $7.99 per pack of three ice cream sandwiches. The products are hormone-free, and each sandwich contains 290 calories.
