MADISON, WIS. – The Dairy Business Innovation Alliance (DBIA) shared it is seeking proposals from organic dairy processors for a new grant program funded by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

DBIA said it will distribute $3.75 million in competitive grants as part of USDA’s Organic Dairy Production Promotion, which aims to strengthen organic dairy producers and processors. The one-time grant awards will range from $100,000 to $1.5 million in value.

A partnership between the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association (WCMA) and Center for Dairy Research, DBIA said the grants will support costs associated with the distribution of organic dairy products for students and young adults (ages 0-25) at institutes such as schools, colleges and youth organizations.

WCMA director of sustainability and grants Danica Nilsestuen said the new infusion of grants will support an industry with a track record of growth and success.

“This new funding presents opportunities to continue strengthening the Midwest organic dairy industry by reaching the next generation of consumers,” Nilsestuen said.

Organic operations in DBIA’s 11 state region of Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin may apply for the grants.

DBIA said submissions are due by 5 pm CT on Feb. 21. Further information is available online at WCMA’s website.
