LUTZ, FLA. — The latest contamination detection solutions from Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection deal with medium to large products, with multi-lane capabilities.

The equipment manufacturer said it developed the new X6 series – consisting of the X16 and X36.2 X-ray inspection systems – to provide flexibility for food and beverage companies that need efficient inspection across product sizes and configurations.

Mettler-Toledo Safeline X-ray head of global sales and product management Mike Pipe said the X6 series builds upon the company’s X2 series.

“The X6 series offers significant improvements in mechanical design and performance compared to previous generations, providing enhanced control over product safety, reducing downtime and helping manufacturers remain competitive in today’s market,” Pipe said. “And all of this is achieved at an affordable price, making it accessible for businesses of various sizes.”

The company described its X16 inspection system as an entry level X-ray solution for medium and large products (500-600 mm in length) that detects contaminants such as metal, glass, stone, bone and low-density materials across single or multiple lanes. Mettler-Toledo said X16 supports products up to 300 mm in height at conveyor speeds up to 60 meters per minute. It makes quality and integrity checks, as well, including detection of correct product placement, mass component count, fill level and identifying damaged packaging.

A more advanced inspection system, X36.2 can identify small foreign bodies, as well as missing or broken products. The company said X36.2 is customizable, with reject bin options, and it is capable of handling more than 1,000 products per minute, depending on product size.

Mettler-Toledo noted both models in the X6 series were designed to improve belt removal and simplify cleaning, service and maintenance.

The manufacturer also developed ProdX data management software to automate monitoring, reporting and collating in real-time. Additionally, the company said the software analyzes data to facilitate production line improvements that boost productivity.
