WILMINGTON, MASS. — Kovalus Separation Solutions, formerly Koch Separation Solutions, plans to invest more than $20 million in a new 140,000-square-foot spiral membrane element assembly facility in Mexico.

Kovalus said the facility will enable a 50% expansion in its spiral membrane production capacity. The company expanded production capacity at its RELCO facility in Willmar, Minn., earlier this year.

An industrial machinery manufacturer based in Massachusetts, Kovalus develops synergistic technology, such as membrane filtration, ion exchange, evaporation and drying, among others, for food, beverage, life science and general industrial markets.

Kovalus said all of its core membrane technology for spiral products will be manufactured at its Massachusetts headquarters.

“Membrane technology allows our customers in food, beverage, dairy and industrial applications to significantly improve operational sustainability and profitability, through increased product yield, purity and water reuse,” said Manny Singh, chief executive officer of Kovalus Separation Solutions. “The increasing demand for our products has prompted an exhaustive evaluation of potential locations for expansion. After careful consideration, we have chosen Mexico due to its proximity to key markets, availability of skilled labor and rapidly improving infrastructure.”

The Mexico facility is expected to begin operations in late 2024.
