AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND – International dairy ingredients and solutions manufacturer NZMP unveiled a new digital tool developed to give its United States customers access to crucial emissions data.
The B2B dairy brand for New Zealand cooperative Fonterra, NZMP said its Carbon Footprinter technology provides 2023 emissions data for NZMP dairy products purchased, as well as forecasted emissions reductions for those products through 2030, based on Fonterra’s climate targets.
The digital platform allows US customers to select from various dairy product categories, input the volume purchased and find the pertinent emissions data tied to the products, NZMP shared.
“We know that for many of our US-based customers, NZMP products form a large part of their Scope 3 emissions,” said Richard Allen, NZMP’s Atlantic region president.
"Fonterra’s New Zealand farmers already have one of the world’s lowest on-farm emissions footprints,” Allen said. “We are really proud to provide greater transparency around our New Zealand sourced products to showcase this, and we believe the Carbon Footprinter is well positioned to help our customers meet changing consumer demand for more sustainable products.”
Per NZMP, US customers also may access free carbon footprint certificates via sustainability accreditor, Toitū Envirocare.
Fonterra’s sustainability steps in recent years also have included measuring its supply chain emissions for 15-plus years and providing annual sustainability reports since 2018.
