WINSTON-SALEM, NC – A year after making its debut in grocery stores, Lower Sugar meltémi Greek Yogurt received Good Housekeeping’s Best Greek Yogurt distinction when the publication handed out its 2022 Healthy Snack Awards.
Produced by Meltémi Brands, Inc., a women-owned business established in 2021, the lower-sugar product stood out as registered dietitians and culinary professionals at the Good Housekeeping Institute Nutrition Lab tested snacks that were made with real and recognizable ingredients, had 300 or fewer calories per serving and met other stringent nutritional criteria.
Good Housekeeping used close to 2,000 taste testers to help determine the winners in each category.
“As a new brand, we are thrilled to be recognized by Good Housekeeping, a name America has trusted since 1885," said Ntina Skoteiniadis, Meltémi’s chief executive officer and co-founder.
Lower Sugar meltémi Greek Yogurt is lactose-free, with 13 grams of protein, 4 grams of sugar and 100 calories per serving. It also includes at least 25% of the daily recommended value for vitamins A, E, D, B1, B2, B5, B6, B9, B12 and Zinc.
"Coming out of the pandemic, consumers are focused on staying healthy and shedding those pandemic pounds, and this combination of vitamins and zinc supports both the immune system and metabolism,” Skoteiniadis said.
She said the company chose yogurt cultures from Greece that give the products a “milder, less sour taste,” which allows Meltémi to avoid the need to add a lot of sugar.
Meltémi’s products currently are sold at retailers such as Meijer, Albertsons, Tom Thumb, Randalls, and Giant Food.
