POINT REYES STATION, CALIF. — Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Co.’s TomaTruffle took the top prize in the semi-soft, flavored open class category at the 2022 World Championship Cheese Contest in Madison, Wis.
The cheese’s score of 99.25 also earned it the honor of one of the World’s Top 20 Cheeses.
“We are thrilled with TomaTruffle’s 1st Place award at the World Competition,” said Kuba Hemmerling, vice president of operations at Point Reyes Farmstead.
“To learn that TomaTruffle has also been recognized as one of the top 20 cheeses in the world, that is just outstanding,” Hemmerling said. “Our team’s goal is that every wheel contains the perfect mix of creamy texture and rich butter notes in the cheese, enhanced by the balance of earthy flavors from Sabatino Italian truffles. The gratification that our efforts have been rewarded is awesome.”
A team of 53 internationally renowned judges evaluated all entries during the three-day event. The Top 20 finalists were selected from the preliminary winners of all 141 classes.
