BOULDER, COLO. – Freeze-dried snack maker Astronaut Foods created two new ice cream flavors to send into orbit this fall.
The company, which formulated its signature Astronaut Ice Cream product with NASA in 1974, revealed it is adding Cookies & Cream and Mint Chocolate Chip options to its line of freeze-dried ice cream sandwiches.
What’s more, Astronaut Foods also announced it is bringing back its freeze-dried Cinnamon Apples, as well as selling a new bundle that includes each of its ice cream flavors and freeze-dried fruit products.
“These new flavors, alongside the Astronaut Collection Pack, highlight our commitment to offering innovative, quality products that our customers love,” said Duane Primozich, chief executive officer of American Outdoor Products, which produces Astronaut Foods and Backpacker's Pantry snacks. “We continue to bring the taste of space to everyone, just in time for the holiday season.”
The company shared that its freeze-dried ice cream sandwiches are ready to eat right out of the packaging, and they don’t have to be kept in a freezer. The various flavors – Vanilla, Neapolitan, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Cookies & Cream – are made with 100% real ice cream and have a three-year shelf life.
Following a brief hiatus, the products made a return earlier this year.
Astronaut Foods sells all of its freeze-dried ice cream and fruit products at its online store.
