DUNKIRK, NY – Ice cream manufacturer Wells Enterprises announced it is expanding its facility in Dunkirk, NY, more than doubling the plant’s current production output.
Construction is slated to begin this fall and the company anticipates the project to be operational by late 2025.
Per Wells Enterprises, the facility plays a crucial role in its plans to further build up the national manufacturing network for the company’s Blue Bunny, Halo Top, Bomb Pop and Blue Ribbon Classics brands. Plus, the company’s strategy for the space include supporting growth in novelty and packaged ice cream, as well as innovation.
Wells Enterprises shared the project is expected to bring 200-plus new jobs to the Dunkirk area.
“We are extremely excited to build on the strength of our team in Dunkirk and continue to work with the community to grow and expand our operations here,” said Liam Killeen, chief executive officer at Wells Enterprises. “The investment in Dunkirk illustrates our passion to provide high-quality premium ice cream products that bring joy to consumers around the world. The planned expansion also reinforces our dedication to our team, consumers and the community as a critical part of the long-term future of our company.”
Based in Le Mars, Iowa, Wells Enterprises also has two manufacturing plants there, as well as one in Henderson, Nevada. Ferrero Group acquired Wells Enterprises in late 2022.
Mark Meyer, chief operating officer, said the Dunkirk expansion follows the company’s recent strong performance.
“That, coupled with the continued growth plan for our brands and the category overall, makes expanding our Dunkirk facility the right choice for Wells,” Meyer said. "We are extremely grateful for the partnerships with Empire State Development, Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency, and the City of Dunkirk as their support remains critical to take us over the finish line on this incredibly exciting project.”
