NEW BERLIN, NY – Chobani introduced a new flavor of Greek yogurt that will help efforts to combat child hunger.
The Child Hunger Batch flavor, Raspberry Lemonade, supports Edesia, a Rhode Island-based non-profit with a mission to end hunger and malnutrition throughout the world. Coinciding with the launch, Chobani announced it is donating $250,000 to support Edesia.
The yogurt maker shared data from the US Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service and the World Health Organization that stated 9 million children in the US are at risk of hunger, while there are 45.5 million children in the world suffering from acute malnutrition – more than 3 million children die each year from the deficiency.
"It's a tragedy that millions of children are at risk of acute malnutrition globally," said Hamdi Ulukaya, Chobani’s founder and chief executive officer. “Companies have an opportunity and responsibility to come together to bring an end to childhood hunger.”
Ulukaya added: "Edesia shares our commitment to action. Good, nutritious food should be a right for all, not a privilege for some, which is why Chobani has been committed to making delicious, nutritious, accessible food since the beginning."
In line with those endeavors, Chobani brought back its popular Raspberry Lemonade flavor, which used to be a limited-time product, and made it a permanent part of its line. The company describes it as a layered lemon Greek yogurt with real raspberry at the bottom, and “billions of probiotics.” Sold nationwide, it is made with natural, non-GMO ingredients and contains no artificial flavors or preservatives.
In 2022, Chobani launched its Food Access in Reach (FAIR) initiative, which also aims to end child hunger.
Its other products tied to charities include the Hero Batch, which supports Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit that serves military families; and Refugee Support Batch, a collaboration with UNSTUCK, an initiative from the Tent Partnership for Refugees founded by Ulukaya. UNSTUCK partners with brands to create job opportunities for refugees.
