PETALUMA, CALIF. – Sheep’s milk products from Bellwether Farms won three medals at the American Cheese Society’s 2022 competition.
Two of the creamery’s cheese logs secured gold medals: its Fresh Sheep Cheese Log - Original received the top score form the judges in the sheep’s milk cheese aged 0 to 39 days category, while the Fresh Sheep Cheese Log - Sonoma Herb picked up the top honor in the sheep cheese with flavor added, 100% sheep’s milk category.
Additionally, Bellwether Farms’ Plain Sheep Milk Yogurt earned a silver medal in the yogurts plain with no additional ingredients, made from sheep’s milk category.
"We're especially happy to be recognized for our newest product, the Fresh Sheep Cheese Logs," said Liam Callahan, owner of Bellwether Farms. "To win two Gold Medals with such fierce competition is truly an honor. We're also really proud of our silver medal for our Sheep Milk Yogurt, a product that has really taken off for us in the last year or so. We know we have something special here at Bellwether Farms but to get recognition from the American Cheese Society is very rewarding and worth celebrating."
Per the creamery, it sources its whole sheep’s milk from a local network of sheep dairies which raise sheep on open spaces, where they eat a natural diet without added hormones. The sheep’s milk protein is 100% A2 type.
The ACS competition allotted gold, silver and bronze medals in 120 cheese categories. A complete list of the 380 awards bestowed this year can be found online at the ACS website.
